In the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, from OpenAI’s dominance to Deepseek’s recent breakthrough, I’ve been asking myself: Why not Saskatchewan? This question led me to establish SKAIA (Saskatchewan’s AI Advantage), and I’m convinced our province has unique advantages waiting to be unleashed.
The Platform Revolution That Left Us Behind
We’ve all witnessed the technological and media revolutions that shaped our world. Remember when platform businesses and mobile apps transformed cities globally? Saskatchewan largely watched from the sidelines, eventually becoming dependent on these external platforms. We’ve become a city paying commissions to Uber and others, rather than creating our own solutions.
But here’s the exciting part: we’re standing at another pivotal moment in history, and this time, we can choose to be leaders rather than followers.
Why SKAIA? Why Now?
The global AI race is just beginning. Yes, it’s been over two years since GPT’s launch, but we’re all still at the starting line. This is our opportunity to build something uniquely ours – to create AI services that leverage our local data, experience, and understanding of our community’s needs.
What if we built our own data centers? What if we applied AI solutions specifically designed for our industries? The beauty of this AI revolution is that it doesn’t require massive teams of IT professionals like previous tech waves. It’s about ideas and execution – and being first can mean being years ahead.
From Concept to Reality
Through SKAIA, I’ve recently launched an AI-powered real-time translation service. After developing 17 different applications, I’ve gained crucial insights into solving real-world problems with AI. Everywhere I look, I see opportunities for beneficial AI applications that could transform our community.
The Saskatchewan Advantage
You might ask: Why Saskatchewan? I counter: Why not? The world is changing whether we participate or not. The U.S. and China aren’t slowing down their AI development to wait for us. So why should we resign ourselves to being followers?
We need our own AI Avengers (yes, I just made that reference!). We need to build solutions that address our unique challenges and opportunities. The platform revolution may have passed us by, but the AI revolution is one where we can take the lead.
The question isn’t whether AI will transform our world – it’s whether we’ll be the ones driving that transformation. And I believe we should be.
Ready to join the Saskatchewan AI revolution? Let’s connect and explore how we can build this future together. The door is open for collaboration, partnerships, and innovative ideas.
